Motorcyclist injured after collision with SUV

A motorcycle struck a Jeep on the Cold Brook Road in Hampden early Tuesday evening.

Maine State Trooper Joshua D’Angelo said Lawrence Holmquist, 54, of Monson, was blinded by the sun as he turned his Jeep Cherokee onto the Interstate 95 southbound entrance ramp, crossing the path of oncoming motorcyclist Adam Dawson, 30, of the Thomaston area.

D’Angelo said Dawson, who was wearing a helmet, was conscious, but complained of pain in his lower back and pelvis. He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was still being evaluated late Tuesday night. Holmquist was uninjured.

Dawson’s Harley-Davidson struck the rear right quarter of the Jeep, totally disconnecting the SUV’s drive shaft. The front wheel of the motorcycle was destroyed.

No charges have been filed at this time.

A Carmel man was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center Monday night after being thrown from his truck in a rollover in Corinna.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. William Birch said Jeremy Plungy, 25, of Corinna, was driving down the Greenbush Road at about 7:20 p.m. when the truck went off the road and rolled over, stopping on its wheels about 50 yards from the road.

Birch said Plungy, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by ambulance to Sebasticook Valley Hospital. His passenger, Jimmy Clark, 42, of Carmel, was ejected from the truck and had to be airlifted to EMMC.

Birch said Clark was not wearing a seatbelt. Speed and alcohol were evidently factors in the accident. It is still under investigation.

A Bradford man was summoned for theft after allegedly drinking two bottles of mouthwash without paying.

Bangor police Officer Robert Hutchings said he went to the Broadway Rite Aid at about 9:20 a.m. The store manager told him a man had taken a bottle of mouthwash into the restroom and came out leaving the empty bottle. She believed the man had drunk it all. She told Hutchings the man returned to the restroom with a second bottle.

Hutchings said he found an intoxicated William Jennison, 49, in the restroom with a half-empty bottle of mouthwash. Jennison allegedly told Hutchings he did not intend to pay for it.
