PORTLAND – Doubles by Napoleon Calzado and Mike Fontenot sparked a six-run eruption in the 10th inning as the Bowie Baysox defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 11-6 Thursday in the Eastern League.
With the game tied 5-5, Calzado doubled and drove in the go-ahead run, and Fontenot drove in three when he doubled with the bases loaded. Both men also scored in Bowie’s six-run outburst.
Earlier in the game, Kelly Ramos hit a three-run homer for the BaySox and Keith Reed added a solo shot. Jeremy Owens, Trace Coquillette and Kevin Haverbusch homered for the Sea Dogs.
Portland (24-18) scored one run in the second and two in the third on doubles by Dustin Brisson and Kevin Youkilis. Owens’ homer made it 4-0 in the fourth.
But Bowie (21-22) tied it up with four runs in the fifth inning, with Ramos’ homer with two men aboard the key blow.
Reed’s homer sent the BaySox ahead 5-4 in the seventh, but Coquillette tied it in the eighth with a shot over the left-field wall.
After the BaySox scored six times in the top of the tenth, Haverbusch’s homer narrowed the gap to 11-6 in the bottom of the inning.
