Machias tips WA on Stevens triple

MACHIAS – Machias’ Todd Stevens tripled to score Scott Brokaw with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning and help lead the Bulldogs to a 7-6 baseball victory over Washington Academy of East Machias.

Stevens gave up only two earned runs, four hits, and four walks while striking out 10 batters for Machias. He also hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, tripled, and had two singles. Ed St. Pierre and Brokaw each had two singles and Nate Poore hit a RBI single.

Corey Colbeth had a double and single for Washington Academy of East Machias and Mike Marzoll doubled.

At Belfast, John Ellis had a double, two singles and four RBIs to help lead Belfast to the win.

Josh Gallant had three RBIs on three singles while Jesse Johnson hit two homes for two RBIs. Nick Arthers added a solo home run while Matt Welch and Paul Herman chipped in with two singles apiece.

Wade Oliver led the Rockland effort with a solo home run and a two-run double.

At Howland, Matt Osborne drove home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give host Penobscot Valley the come-from-behind win.

Jake Crosby, Cody Thompson, and Andrew Hallett each had a RBI single for PVHS.

Dave Chrisos hit two singles with a RBI for Bangor Christian. D.J. McCleary had a pair of singles and Willy Hinkley had a RBI single.

At Lincoln, Tyler Libbey and Steven Whitney each hit RBI singles in the fifth inning to help power Mattanawcook Academy to the win.

Tyler Gardner contributed with a double.

Nate Dow hit a single and a double for Lee Academy while Andrew Stevens added an RBI single.

At Belfast, Morgan Crandall threw a one-hitter while striking out 12 and allowing no walks to lead Belfast to the win.

Melissa Gray hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and a single with five total RBIs for Belfast. Danielle Mayer hit two doubles and a single with four RBIs and Lauren Overlock tripled.

Stacia Matthews hit a single in the fourth inning for Rockland.

At Machias, Monique St. Pierre hit a two-run home run in the third inning and a pair of singles to push Machias to the win.

Sarah Maker had a solo homer in the third inning for Machias. Lindsey Cherry hit three singles with two RBIs and Eileen Alley doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Sara Rushforth hit two singles for Washington Academy of East Machias and Steph Almendinger had a RBI single in the third inning.

At Blue Hill, Nikki Boutin smacked two home runs and a single for five RBIs to help power George Stevens to the win.

Rachel Wardwell added two doubles while Laurie Allen hit a single and a triple.

Ashley Spofford had a two run single for Deer Isle-Stonington while Meghan Wiberg chipped in with a double.

At Woodland, Celia Cummings hit three singles, a double and a triple for four RBIs to help lead Shead to victory.

Samantha Davis had a single and a double for two RBIs while Brittany Lingley added a single and a triple. Jamie Cassell chipped in with two singles.

Katie Holmes led Woodland with three singles while Lacey Gillespie hit a double and a single. Alicia Vose contributed with two singles.
