Palmyra man arrested for disorderly conduct

A Palmyra man was arrested for disorderly conduct Wednesday night after being warned by Bangor police to quiet down and get out of the way of traffic.

Police confronted James Anderson outside an apartment, where it was reported he was trying to kick the door in.

He was agitated, saying he was recently released from state prison and vowing to fight police if they tried to arrest him. It took some coaxing, police said, but Anderson left with trespass and disorderly conduct warnings.

He didn’t go quietly. Officer James Dearing reported that Anderson swore and ignored orders to get out of the street. Dearing and Officer Josh Ouellette went to arrest Anderson, who was by that time in the Big Apple parking lot on State Street.

Anderson threw down his jacket and took up a fighting stance against the officers, who each responded with pepper spray. When Anderson kept flailing at the officers, Dearing struck the man’s upper leg twice with a baton.

The officers subdued Anderson and charged him with disorderly conduct and failure to submit to an arrest.

An estimated $2,220 in jewelry was stolen from an employee at a Bangor business Friday.

Bangor police Officer Butch Moor said a Dexter woman who works at Penobscot Community Health Care reported four rings, one of them a diamond engagement ring, were missing after she put them in a cup on a shelf at work.

A Bangor man jaywalked in front of a police cruiser Thursday night and was arrested on two warrants.

Officer James Dearing said he was driving down Union Street at about 9 p.m. when a group of about 7 people walked into the street without yielding to traffic.

Dearing said a man later identified as Gary Newell, 23, walked in front of Dearing’s cruiser, forcing him to stop. There was no crosswalk there.

Dearing stopped Newell on First Street. Dispatch informed Dearing that Newell had two warrants from Kennebec County for failure to appear in court: one for an operating under the influence charge, the other for an operating without a license charge.

Dearing arrested Newell. A search revealed a pipe and a small bag of marijuana, Dearing said. He summoned Newell at Penobscot County Jail.
