A motorist told Bangor police he gave a man a ride early Saturday morning only to have the man steal his money, papers and identification.

The driver said he saw a man outside the Spectrum and offered him a ride and the man accepted. He stopped near 73 Grove St. and then the passenger grabbed his money bag from the seat and ran off with it, heading behind the building and toward Elm Street.

The driver told Officer Russell Twaddell the passenger got away with his Maine income tax refund check, his identification and more than $300 in cash.

The man was described as 5 foot 8 inches, 135 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes with a goatee and mustache. A search of the area came up empty, according to the police report.

A Bangor man was arrested by police Saturday after authorities found he had a loaded .45 caliber pistol in his car.

Bangor police Officer Butch Moor stopped a red car driven by Timothy McCann, 29, after McCann was seen at the Airport Mall with a gun in his holster. McCann was carrying the weapon legally inside the mall but violated the law when he kept it loaded in his car.

After stopping McCann on the Finson Road, Moor noticed the stainless steel .45 caliber semi-automatic gun in the car and discovered that while the chamber was empty, a magazine clip inserted in the gun contained eight rounds.

He was charged with possessing a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.
