Mother Nature continues to be unkind to Maine minor league baseball teams at the start of their seasons.
The Bangor Lumberjacks were rained out Friday and Saturday night as well as Sunday afternoon.
Saturday’s scheduled doubleheader was postponed to Sunday at 9 a.m., but even a much earlier starting time and an attempt to dry the field failed to help Bangor and Allentown get at least one game in as Centennial Field in Allentown, Pa., was too wet and deemed unplayable.
All three rainouts will be made up as part of doubleheaders Friday-Sunday, July 4-6, at Bangor. Fans with tickets to the rainouts can use them for any other Ambassadors home game this season.
The Portland Sea Dogs of the Class AA Eastern League had their entire first week’s schedule of games wiped out last month due to snow and rain.
Bangor’s home opener is Friday at Mahaney Diamond in Orono against the New Jersey Jackals, defending Northeast League champions. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
Game times for all Bangor weeknight and Saturday home games have been switched from 7 p.m. to 7:15 in an effort to combat the glare in left field caused by the setting sun.
The Lumberjacks, who beat Allentown in their opener Thursday, are in Massachusetts the next few days with games against the Brockton Rox on Monday and the North Shore Spirit on Wednesday and Thursday.
