DOVER-FOXCROFT – Robert G. Coffill Jr., head of school of Foxcroft Academy, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2003.
Megan Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Long of Charleston, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2003. She will attend Cornell University to study astronomy, where she was selected as a Pauline and Irving Tanner Dean’s Scholar.
She has been active in the French club, Key Club and photography club for four years, has been involved in band and has participated in the District V Honors Band for three years as a clarinetist. She has participated at the State Science Fair for three years, where she earned first place as a sophomore and second place as a junior. She is a National Honor Society member and has been on the high honor roll every year. As a junior, she was a Girls State delegate and received both the Society of Women Engineers math and science award and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute math and science medal. In her junior and senior years, she was the top scorer on the math team.
For the past four years, she has served as the field hockey team’s scorekeeper, in combination with seasons on the indoor and outdoor track teams and managing the swim team. This summer she will finish her three-year experience as an Upward Bound Regional Math-Science student at the University of Maine by experimenting with zebra fish and milk.
Leigh Cartwright, daughter of Carrie Cartwright of Dover-Foxcroft and James Cartwright of Guilford, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2003. She will attend the University of Vermont and has been accepted to the master of physical therapy program.
She has been active in National Honor Society, Latin club, and also in her community. As a junior, she was Foxcroft Academy’s Bausch & Lomb science award winner and has been on the honor roll each year.
She has been active all four years in basketball, serving as captain her senior year, was a Big East Scholar Athlete in 2002 as a junior and 2003 as a senior, and served as captain of the softball team her senior year.
