BANGOR – Interim Head Allen C. Adriance has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2003 at John Bapst Memorial High School.
Zachary D. Jones, son of Christopher and Jann Jones of Glenburn, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2003. He will attend Columbia University in the fall and major in Middle Eastern studies.
He is a National Merit Commended Student, a representative to Dirigo Boys State, recipient of the Williams College Book Award, the Maine Scholars Award, the University of Rochester Humanities and Social Studies Award, and numerous John Bapst Memorial High School academic awards for outstanding achievement in his courses. He has pursued summer studies at the University of Maine and Georgetown University. He is a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, photography club, John Bapst peppers, concert band, and the president and founder of the social studies club. He is also active in community service.
Ashley E. Leighton, daughter of Cary and Donetta Leighton of Glenburn, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2003. She will attend Connecticut College in the fall with a major in psychology-based human relations and a minor in gender and women’s studies.
She has received scholastic achievements such as the Maine Scholars Award, Regis College Book Award, and numerous John Bapst Memorial High School academic awards for outstanding achievement. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has volunteered her time to the community through Key Club. In addition to maintaining a job, she has served as editor-in-chief of the yearbook, lettered in field hockey, and participated in the fine arts program.
