HOWLAND – Principal Bryan Artes has announced honor parts for the Class of 2003 at Penobscot Valley High School. Class Night exercises will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, and commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in the George Sereyko Memorial Gymnasium.

Edward Bernard, son of Reginald Bernard of West Enfield, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2003. He will attend the University of Maine to study engineering physics.

He has participated in National Honor Society, PVHS blood drives, and the golf team. He has received the UMaine Scholars Achievement Award and the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award.

Erika LaForge, daughter of Paul and Marie LaForge of West Enfield, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2003. She will attend the University of Maine, where she plans to study civil engineering.

She has participated in dance, class council, math team, National Honor Society, Voice of Democracy, District V Solo & Ensemble Festivals, and the Educational Values Workshop. She was sophomore and junior class vice president and senior class president. She has received the UMaine Scholars Achievement Award, Girl Scout Silver Award and the Society of Women Engineers Award, and was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State.

Correction: The name of Melanie Bernard of Bangor was inadvertently omitted from the May 28 announcement of the honor parts for the Class of 2003 at Penobscot Valley High School. She is the mother of valedictorian Edward Bernard.
