MILLINOCKET – Principal Paul MacDonald of Stearns High School has announced the tri-valedictorians for the Class of 2003.
Aaron Doody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Doody, has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years, a delegate to Dirigo Boys State, student council treasurer his freshman year, junior class secretary, and a member of the math team for four years. He was among 16 Maine juniors selected to attend the Keller-BLOOM Research Program. He was awarded the Maine Scholars’ Achievement Award and the Principal’s Award for his efforts in academics and citizenship.
He has been active in athletics, running for the cross-country and track and field teams at Stearns. He was a four-year member of the ice hockey team, serving as captain his senior year, and was selected as an Eastern Maine Class B Senior All-Star.
An active member of the performing arts, Aaron has been lead alto for the jazz ensemble and concert bands for the past three years. He also performed in two musicals, “The King and I” and “Into the Woods.” He has worked as a receptionist at the Big Moose Inn, Cabins and Campground.
He will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study engineering.
James Patrick Mahoney, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Mahoney, has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years. He attended Dirigo Boys State as a delegate and participated in a summer engineering internship at the engineering department of the Millinocket paper mill.
He has been a member of the math team for four years, leading the team in overall scoring his senior year. He has served on the student council and prom committee and participated in the Spanish club. He competed on the track team for four years, earning a varsity letter.
He has volunteered his services to work at a Red Cross blood drive and to build a ramp at the house of a physically limited person, and regularly tutors math students. He was honored with the Williams College Book Award and the Maine Scholars Achievement Award, as well as Outstanding Team Contribution in Track.
He plans to attend Brown University to study civil engineering.
Sarah Saucier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Saucier, has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and was selected as a member of Dirigo Girls State. She has served on the student council and as junior and senior class treasurer. She participated in Stearns athletics throughout high school, including field hockey, basketball and track and received an Academic All-State award during her senior season of field hockey.
She has participated in the French club, math team, jazz band and show choir, was involved in school musicals and dance classes, and has been a peer counselor and tutor.
She will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study chemical engineering.
