Maine Technology Institute gives Seed Grants to help area companies

BANGOR – Area companies were recently awarded Seed Grants, according to Dr. Janet Yancey-Wrona, director.

Eastern Maine companies receiving Seed Grants, and the scope of each project:

. Advanced Technologies for Forestry and Agriculture – The University of Maine’s Process Development Center at Orono will develop a new retention technology for the acid papermaking process.

. Composite Materials Technology – Pell Innovations of Orono will continue the development of the RevBow.

. Environmental Technology – Spill Free Oil Drainage Products, LLC of Bangor will prepare a phase I proposal for development of a new product to enable spill-free draining of oil filters.

. Information Technology – Transpose, LLC of Bangor will develop a phase II proposal for predictive mathematical software solutions.

. Precision Manufacturing Technology – Talon Industries, LLC of Hampden will file for patent protection, advance the design and analyze the manufacturing costs of a game-recovery system for bow hunters.

The application deadlines for the next set of awards are June 19 for Seed Grants and July 7 for Development Awards. More information about MTI’s award programs is available at www.mainetechnology.org.

MTI Seed Grants are offered on a competitive basis to support early activities for product development, commercialization or business planning and development.

MTI was created by the Legislature in 1999 to encourage, promote, stimulate and support research and development activity leading to the commercialization of new products and services in the state’s technology-intensive industrial sectors.
