ORRINGTON – Matthew Quimby received the highest achievement award available in Boy Scouting, the Eagle Scout award. Scoutmaster Art Morgan presented the award in front of more than 60 people at East Orrington Congregational Church on May 11.

The ceremony was conducted by members of Troop 44, including Eagle Scout Dan Phillips. Eagle Scouts Richard Lizotte of Orrington, Mark Gray of Brewer, Thomas Howard of Center Harbor, N.H., and Quimby’s uncle, Blane Casey of South China, also took part.

Quimby started in Scouting in 1992 as a Tiger Cub, crossing over into Boy Scouts in 1997. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 1998. He earned 35 merit badges as a Boy Scout.

For his Eagle project, Quimby built storage shelves at the new Center Drive School in Orrington.

Quimby is a junior at Brewer High School. He lives in Orrington with his parents, Steve and Linda Quimby, and sister, Katie.
