James “Chico” Hernandez of Washburn captured two world wrestling championships at the 6th AAU World Ironman Wrestling Championships, which were held May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Hernandez won nine fights in a row in the Senior Open and Masters division. In the finals of the Greco-Roman championships he pinned Glen Toleson of Orlando, Fla., in 1 minute, 30 seconds. Hernandez pinned Toleson in the Olympic freestyle championships in 1:22.

Hernandez has a total of 31 National AAU All-American titles and nine world titles. He was featured on the back of Wheaties Energy Crunch Cereal boxes last year.
