ORONO – The University of Maine recently recognized four faculty members with top awards for outstanding achievement in teaching, research and public service.
Named 2003 Distinguished Maine Professor was Kevin Boyle, who teaches environmental economics and environmental quality, and is the author of more than 150 published research papers, according to a UM press release.
Mathematics professor Robert Franzosa received the Presidential Outstanding Teaching Award. Associate chair of the department of mathematics and statistics, Franzosa is an active adviser who consistently receives high ratings in student evaluations.
Habib Dagher, professor of structural engineering and director of UM’s Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center, received the Presidential Research and Creative Achievement Award.
Dagher’s work in wood composites has involved the creation of technology that can positively affect Maine’s economy. He has brought in more than $20 million in funds for research projects.
Harlan Onsrud, professor in the department of spatial information science and engineering, was awarded the Presidential Public Service Achievement Award.
The driving force behind a number of public service initiatives in Maine and beyond, Onsrud has helped people understand the advances in engineering and science at UM, according to the press release.
