MACHIAS – Jessica Whittaker singled home Chrissy Driscoll in the top of the third inning Saturday, giving Calais the eventual margin of victory as the Blue Devils beat Machias 2-1 in the Downeast Athletic Conference softball championship game.
Darcy Gillespie provided a sacrifice fly in the first inning for Calais behind winner Nikki Ellington, who pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Jillian Whitney and Christi Holmes singled for Machias.

At Eastport, Josh Francis recorded three singles and drove in three runs to lead Shead to the Downeast Athletic Conference title.
Brothers Ben and Derek Maloney chipped in with six hits as Ben had three singles and Derek had a double and two singles. James Macdonald added two singles and two RBIs.
James Ramsdell tripled and singled for the Raiders of East Machias. Whitney Stevens added an RBI triple, and Jared Gray had an RBI single.
