I am writing to those who visited Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Ohio Street in Bangor the week of May 4. The visitors removed two small birdhouse wind chimes from the black iron hearts that decorate a flower box.

This is upsetting to me, even more so because it took place just before Mother’s Day. I do not have the luxury of my children visiting me on Mother’s Day; instead I go to the cemetery to visit them. I am disappointed in a society that robs from two innocent children’s graves.

My first son lived 10 precious hours, and my second son made it to 10 days after his 16th birthday, losing his battle to muscular dystrophy. Why must those thieves steal from children who have already been robbed of their lives? When they walk through life’s paths, they should remember during their struggles that this is God’s way of humbling them.
