Baker’s RBI single gives Bangor win Rams slip past Broncos in 8 innings

BANGOR – Heidi Baker’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the No. 5 Bangor Rams a 1-0 high school softball win over No. 12 Hampden in Class A prelim action Tuesday at Union Street Field.

Baker’s hit plated Kelly White, who drew a walk and stole second to get into scoring position. White pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk. Megan McCrum added a single for Bangor.

Cheryl Morris and Amy Ryder both singled for the Broncos. Ashlea Ireland also pitched a two-hitter, striking out four.

At Presque Isle, the No. 9 Indians took advantage of six Wildcat errors en route to the win.

At Mount Desert, Caroline Woodworth hit two doubles and a single with two RBIs to lead No. 6 Mount Desert Island over No. 11 Hermon.

Nia Megquier hit three singles with an RBI for the Trojans. Bracey Barker doubled and singled, and Becca Goff hit two singles.

Ericka Joy had two singles for Hermon.

At Ellsworth, Krystal Roberts’ first-inning RBI double gave Tara Dyer all the support she needed as the seventh-ranked Eagles prevailed.

Dyer scattered only four hits with five strikeouts and no walks for Ellsworth. Roberts added a single and Holly Tripp laced an RBI single.

Caitlin Brown had two singles for the No. 10 Windjammers.

Ashley Desjardins hit a two-run single in the seventh inning for No. 8 Fort Kent and Melissa Morneault singled.

Leslie Osborne drove in two runs on two singles for No. 10 Stearns. Holly Franck collected three singles and drove in a run, and Dayna Somers added a double, single, and two RBIs.

Missy Barbee had a two-run triple for the No. 7 Knights of Harrington.

At Limestone, seventh-seeded Limestone/Maine School for Science and Mathematics pulled off a 1-2-3-5 triple play in the fifth inning to end No. 10 Deer Isle-Stonington’s threat and send the Eagles to a 12-9 Eastern Maine Class D preliminary round high school softball victory Tuesday.

Lindsey Beaulieu hit a pair of doubles with two RBIs for Limestone, and Ashley Brooker had two singles with two RBIs. Emily O’Neal hit two singles with an RBI, and Meagan Pelletier had two singles.

Lacey Greenlaw and Heather Hutchinson each hit an RBI single for Deer Isle-Stonington, and Anna Boyce singled.
