Power outage blamed on faulty equipment

BANGOR – Three hundred and ninety Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. customers in downtown Bangor were without power for nearly an hour Tuesday morning.

At 9:22 a.m. stores, apartments and traffic lights lost power until 10:12 p.m., when workers were able to fix the problem.

“When they got on site the problem was immediately obvious,” and repairs were made in less than an hour, said LuAnn Williams, Bangor Hydro’s communications director.

A piece of insulation equipment that malfunctioned at a point where underground and overhead transmissions meet was determined to be the cause of the problem.

“It’s like anything where equipment is involved. Things break. It’s like running a car,” said Williams.

The site has since been inspected to try to prevent future problems.

Williams said Bangor Hydro apologizes to anyone or any businesses inconvenienced by the outage.
