BANGOR – Gwen Wadleigh fired a one-hitter complete with 12 strikeouts and only three walks as No. 4 John Bapst advanced with a 6-1 Eastern Maine Class B softball quarterfinal victory over No. 5 Houlton Wednesday at the Husson College field.

Julia Sleeper laced a two-run single for the winners and Kim Meagher had three singles.

Claire Thompson hit an infield single for the Shiretowners’ lone hit.

At Bangor, Kara Hartman tossed a three-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts to lift the No. 4 Patriots into the semifinals.

Gaby Eastman laced a two-run double and added an RBI single for the winners, and Danielle Miller singled twice and knocked in two.

Cindy Chamberland had two singles for the No. 5 Pioneers of St. Agatha.

At Greenville, the No. 5 Tigers of Jackman took advantage of nine errors en route to the upset of No. 4 Greenville.

Phil Achey tripled and singled for Forest Hills. Seth Brady hit two singles, and Justin Felker added a double.

Anthony Lavigne collected two singles, a triple, and two RBIs for the Lakers.
