HOULTON – Principal Michael W. Chadwick of Houlton High School has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2003.
Daniel M. Sussman, son of Iva and Ted Sussman of Houlton, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2003. He will attend Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., to study physics and mathematics.
He has participated in soccer and tennis, the math team and chess club. He has been a member of the school band and jazz band, and was selected to participate in All-State music. He was recognized as student of the month, recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science Award, state science fair winner, and was the Maine Principals’ Association honoree at Houlton High School this year.
He completed both Advance Placement calculus ab and bc during his underclassman years and completed two additional yeas of mathematics at Stanford University. He was selected as National Merit Finalist and recently was notified that he will receive the highest academic award available for a high school student. He and 140 other students have been invited to Washington, D.C., after graduation to receive the Presidential Scholar Medal.
David York, son of Jane and Jerry York of Houlton, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2003. He will attend Bowdoin College.
He has been a member of student council, served as a social service volunteer, and participated on the math team. He has been student of the month, received the English award his sophomore year, and has been a volunteer French teacher to third-graders at Houlton Elementary School. He has been a member of the golf and basketball teams, and was selected for membership with the National Honor Society.
