BREWER – Sarah DeFilipp hit two singles with an RBI and pitched a two-hitter to help lead the No. 2 Brewer Witches to a 6-1 Class A quarterfinal win over the No. 10 Old Town Indians in Eastern Maine softball action Friday.
DeFilipp struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.
Christine Thoms had two singles, a double and an RBI while Rachel Wing hit two singles for the winners. Carolyn McAvoy contributed an RBI single.
Sarah Jones hit an RBI single for the Old Town effort and Renee Thibodeau singled.

At Belfast, Morgan Crandall hit two singles and pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out four and walking only two, to help shut down Mount Desert Island offense.
Sam Ellis hit an RBI single in the second inning for Belfast while Nicole Hubbard added a two-run single in the fifth to help secure the lead.
Nia Megquier and Caroline Woodworth singled for MDI.

At Winslow, winning pitcher Beth Lafountain hit a triple and a double to lead No. 2 Winslow past No. 7 Ellsworth in a quarterfinal.
Winslow scored once in the first inning and tallied two more runs in the third to provide all the offensive support Lafountain and reliever Janelle Sylvester needed.
Tara Dyer took the pitching loss.

At Dexter, the top-seeded Tigers scored twice in the first inning, then made the runs hold up.
Sarah Carnes fired a three-hitter, striking out five and walking three, for Dexter.
The Tigers scored early when Brittany Veazie reached second on an error and scored on Carnes’ RBI single. Carnes advanced on a wild pitch and rode home on Cristy McGowen’s two-out single.
Sarah Wyman doubled for Dexter’s only hit.
Searsport’s TaraLee Webster pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks. She also singled. Teresa Caneran and Abby Tripp added singles.
The No. 8 Vikings threatened in the sixth when Webster singled and pinch runner Aimee Nelson stole second. Caneran then singled, but shorstop Cindy Koscielny threw out Nelson at the plate.

Hillary Arsenault led the Stearns offense with a single and two runs while Dana Somers and Leslie Osborne hit an RBI single apiece.

The Lynx scored the pivotal two runs in the top of the six without a hit as a hit batsman, fielder’s choice and three walks helped put two runs across.
Shannon Pietras singled and scored a run for the winners.
Tessa Grindle singled twice and drove in two runs for GSA and Nikki Boutin added an RBI single.

At Buckfield, Danielle Buswell allowed only two hits while striking out 13 and walking five to lead the top-seeded Bucks by the No. 4 Lakers in the semifinal showdown.
Marci Litchfield singled in Colleen Violette with the winning run in the second after Violette had singled and stole second.
Jill Bouley and Kelly Bolen each singled for the Lakers, who left the bases loaded twice and scored their only run on a bases-loaded walk.

At Augusta, John Sanborn had three hits and the No. 2 Cony Rams scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a quarterfinal win over No. 7 Brewer.
The game was halted after five innings by the 10-run rule.
Brewer countered with a run in the top of the second, but Cony put the game away with one run in the bottom of the inning and seven runs in the bottom of the third.
Bob Webber pitched a five-hitter for Cony, while Chad Gomm took the loss for Brewer.
Kevin Kotredes had two RBI doubles for Brewer, while Kevin McAvoy had a single and a double and Zac Bouzan-Kaloustian doubled.

At Bucksport, RBI singles by Adam Sheehan and Marcus Boober highlighted a three-run fifth inning that gave the No. 1 Golden Bucks the lead for good against the No. 8 Mustangs of Thorndike.
Phil Harvey added a pair of singles for the Bucks and was also the winning pitcher. He struck out eight and walked only one.
Kenton Spaulding led the Mustangs with a double and two singles and scored Mount View’s run on a third-inning single by Willie Crichton.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Caleb Pelletier’s three-run double sparked a six-run rally in the bottom of the third inning that lifted No. 2 Foxcroft Academy to victory over No. 7 Ellsworth.
Ellsworth had jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the second inning and two more runs in the top of the third before the Ponies mounted their decisive rally. Danny White and Matt Carey had singles to start the uprising, and an Ellsworth error allowed two runs to score before Pelletier cleared the bases with one of his two doubles in the game.
Ethan Annis added three singles for the Ponies, while Josh Withee singled twice.
Jason Weymouth hurled a complete-game two-hitter for the pitching win. Cory Smith pitched a complete game for Ellsworth.

At Winslow, Eric Lopez pitched a complete-game seven-hitter as No. 3 Winslow eliminated No. 6 Rockland 10-4 in an Eastern B quarterfinal.
Rockland struck for a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Winslow scored at least one run in every inning but the fifth to pull away.
Marty McCaslin had a double for the only extra-base hit of Winslow’s 13 hit attack.
Mike Curtis had a home run and double for Rockland, while Wes Drinkwater doubled.

Ben Dow led the Calais effort with a double and a single wile Nick Feelye and Nick Reynolds added a single apiece.
