Miller sparks Lumberjacks

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. – Lefthander Danny Miller allowed only two hits and one run in seven innings to lead the Bangor Lumberjacks by the New Jersey Jackals 5-3 at Yogi Berra Stadium Friday night in Northeast League action.

Miller, now 1-1, walked one and struck out four to help the Lumberjacks improve to 4-7. Another Bangor lefty, Donnie Thomas, came on in the final two innings to earn the save despite giving up two runs on three hits.

Bangor struck for two runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Mitsuru Kobayashi and an RBI groundout from Todd Brock.

The Lumberjacks put three more pivotal runs on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout by Jude Voltz and two-run single by Mo Blakeney.

The Lumberjacks take on the Jackals again on Saturday and Sunday before heading to Quebec City for a three-game series against the Capitales that begins on Tuesday.
