LITTLE FALLS, N.J. – The New Jersey pitching staff limited Bangor to a single run in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader and the Jackals swept the Lumberjacks, 5-0 and 2-1.
In the second game, Darren Blakely’s solo home run off Donnie Thomas in the bottom of the sixth lifted New Jersey to the come-from-behind victory.
New Jersey, now 11-4, tied the game in the fifth with back-to-back doubles by Carlos Pagan and Chris Rowan. Julie Perez notched the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief.
For the 4-9 Lumberjacks, Donnie Thomas ripped a solo homer in the top of the fourth. The right fielder also doubled.
In the first game, Aaron Myers pitched a five-hit shutout and Travis Bailey provided the only offense Myers needed with a two-run home run in the first inning to lead the Jackals.
Myers (3-1) had five strikeouts and one walk as he worked all seven innings of the Sunday doubleheader’s first game.
The Jackals scored two more runs in the fourth on Craig Conway’s RBI triple and Cedrick Harris’ infield single. The final run came via an RBI single in the sixth by Carlos Pagan, who was 2-for-3 with two singles.
John Vigue (0-1) took the loss for Bangor after allowing all five runs in 5 2/3 innings. Mitsuru Kobayashi was 2-for-3 with two singles and a stolen base.
The Sunday doubleheader was played after the Lumberjacks and Jackals were rained out Saturday night. After an off day Monday, Bangor starts a three-game series against the Quebec Capitales in Quebec City, Canada Tuesday night.
