QUEBEC CITY, Quebec – The Bangor Lumberjacks lost their third straight game and saw their record in extra-inning games drop to 0-3 as the Quebec Capitales knocked them off 8-4 in 10 innings Tuesday night.
Six days after signing a contract to play for Quebec, outfielder Carlos Rodriguez paid a big dividend by ripping a game-winning grand slam off Bangor reliever Santiago Henry with two outs in the 10th.
Rodriguez finished the game with a double, two singles and the slam for five total RBIs. Eddie Lantigua singled twice and drove in a run while John Ballon had two singles for the 8-9 Capitales, who are in second place in the Northeast League’s northern division.
The Capitales, formerly the Bangor Blue Ox, are four games behind Brockton while the Lumberjacks, at 4-10, are 61/2 games out.
Righthander Brad Foss notched the win for Quebec by pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
First baseman Jude Voltz led Bangor at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three singles. Mo Blakeney had a double, a single, and two RBIs while Juan Silvestre doubled and singled. Mitsuru Kobayashi singled twice.
Bangor scored twice in the ninth to tie the game, thanks to a Kobayashi leadoff single, a Brad Hargreaves double, an RBI groundout, and a fielder’s choice RBI.
