NEW SHARON – A local farmer is trying to find the last 13 of his missing young Holstein cows that have eluded searchers since running off during a thunderstorm last week.

Jeff Harris said 33 of his cattle broke through their fencing and ran loose after being spooked by lightning and thunder.

With the help of family and friends, he has managed to recover 20 of the cows. He said Tuesday he is fairly sure where eight of them are, miles away from his farm. He doesn’t have a clue where the other five are.

“We know where eight of them are but when they come out in the field and they see us, they run in the woods,” he said. “I think they are still pretty scared.”
