BANGOR – City councilors are eyeing the weekend of Sept. 19-21 for the latest leg of Bangor’s continuing “sister city” program with Saint John, New Brunswick.

The early autumn visit also would coincide with the University of Maine’s 33rd annual Family and Friends Weekend, during which the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Musical Ride unit is slated to perform on the Orono campus. The RCMP’s equestrian show unit also is tentatively scheduled to perform at Bass Park that weekend. The musical ride features scarlet-coated Mounties in broad-brimmed Stetsons who perform complex drills and formations while on horseback.

As part of the festivities, city officials here are considering taking their Canadian counterparts to a UM football game as guests of the city. The city also might organize a pre-game tailgate party.
