AKRON, Ohio – Tim Kester threw eight scoreless innings as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Akron Aeros 3-0 Friday night in a rain-shortened Eastern League game.
Kevin Haverbusch homered in the second inning and Tony Schrager and Kelly Shoppach each drove in a run to lead the North Division-leading Sea Dogs (37-23).
Kester (3-4) gave up eight hits, struck out four and didn’t allow a walk.
The game was called in the top of the ninth with two outs and two runners on base.
Kyle Denney (6-3) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings for the South Division-leading Aeros (43-24).
Luis Gonzalez had four hits for the Aeros.
