BAR HARBOR – Dr. Kathleen Kotas, a family medicine specialist, will join the Mount Desert Island Hospital medical staff on July 1.

Kotas will work initially out of the Trenton Health Center on the Bar Harbor Road in Trenton. She will eventually see patients in Trenton and at the Cooper Gilmore Health Center in Bar Harbor.

Kotas has worked for Med Now in Ellsworth as a family practitioner since 1986. Prior to that, she worked for Medical Associates in Bar Harbor and in Massachusetts’ hospitals.

The physician graduated magna cum laude from Villanova University in 1972 with a degree in biology. She received her medical degree from Milton S. Hershey Medical School in Hershey, Pa., in 1976. Kotas is certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Also joining the MDI Hospital clinical staff are Leigh Ellen Doyle, who has joined the staff of the Community Health Center in Southwest Harbor as a radiologic technologist and phlebotomist, and Philetta Johnson, who has been hired as a full-time ultrasonographer in the hospital’s medical imaging department.

Doyle’s responsibilities include taking X-rays and drawing blood for testing. She graduated magna cum laude from Houston Community College in 1996 with a degree in radiologic technology. She spent the following seven years as an X-ray technician at Baylor College of Medicine and as the senior technologist for Baylor Sport Medicine. Doyle is licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Johnson will work in the hospital’s medical imaging department performing echocardiograms, carotid and vascular scans and sonography. She received degrees in diagnostic ultrasound and adult echocardiography from the Ultrasound Diagnostic School in Atlanta Georgia in 1993. She has worked as a sonographer and an echocardiographer in Georgia, Ohio and West Virginia.
