MONTREAL – Domtar Inc. has been named one of Canada’s 50 best corporate citizens, according to a study published in the current issue of Corporate Knights magazine. Ranking seventh overall, Domtar placed the highest of paper and forest products manufacturers on the list.

Relying on research conducted during the past 12 months by EthicScan, Sustainable Investment Group and Innovest, the study evaluated the largest companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Canada’s main stock exchange, using various criteria, including community relations, diversity in the workplace, product safety and business practices.

Corporate Knights, launched in 2002, is a quarterly business magazine devoted to highlighting corporate social responsibility in Canada. Distributed free with the Globe and Mail, Corporate Knights has more than 150,000 readers.

Domtar produces uncoated freesheet paper, commercial printing and publication papers, and technical and specialty papers. The company manages 22 million acres of forest in Canada and the United States and produces lumber and other wood products. Domtar has 12,000 employees across North America, including those employed at its pulp and paper mill in Baileyville, Maine.
