Guy Perron volunteers to coach Maine hockey

Former Black Bear captain Guy Perron will serve as volunteer assistant coach for the University of Maine hockey team this coming season.

Perron was Maine’s team captain for the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. He also was an assistant coach in 1991-92 and 1994-95. In his playing career, the 1990 UMaine grad played 136 games, scoring 62 goals and adding 84 assists.

Perron will work primarily with forwards and provide video analysis for the team as he finishes his masters degree in educational administration.

The 35-year-old Perron comes to UMaine from his six-year stint as the head coach of the Chicago Freeze of the North American Hockey League.

The Laval, Quebec, native coached Bangor High School’s varsity hockey team for two seasons and was named Class A coach of the year in 1993.
