Support veterans

Recent developments have shown that public support for veterans and active duty military is still strong. But support from our highest elected official is not only lacking, but is totally against veterans.

The president’s proposed budget was for a cut in Veteran’s Administration funding. This is at a time when a veteran has to wait up to a year to get medical help.

The proposed budget from Congress includes concurrent receipt for veterans, which means that military retirees would not have to pay their own disability.

The Bangor Daily News reported that if this is included, the president has stated he would veto the budget. This happened last year and a much watered-down version was submitted and approved. This shows how much the president really thinks of the military and those who have served.

I urge all veterans, active duty military and those who know someone in either category to write, call or e-mail their congressman or senator to urge them to properly fund the VA and have full concurrent receipt for disabled veterans. In case the president does veto the budget, remind them that his veto can be overridden.
