BANGOR – The Children’s Department of the Bangor Public Library will offer the summer reading programs, “Laugh It Up @ Your Library” and “Library Lotto.” Beginning June 23, the seven-week program is designed for fun and to get children and young adults interested in books and reading.

Daily programs for “Laugh It Up @ Your Library” will include bad hair day, clowns, laughing loons, backwards day, fireman’s muster and more. The programs kick off with “Laughing Place” by storyteller and musician Jennifer Armstrong. Complete calendars and program guides are available in the Children’s Room.

“Library Lotto” gives young people in grades 6-12 a chance to voice their opinions about everything the library has to offer,

Bangor Mall gift certificates will be awarded to winners.

Those who sign up will receive a pass to the Aug. 9 Bangor Lumberjacks game and a free game of bowling at Family Fun Bowling Center. Tuesdays are Door Prize Days and prizes will be awarded at the final program. Those interested may enter each time they visit.

The Summer Reading Challenge asks area schools to encourage students to participate in a summer reading program. The school with the highest percentage of pupils participating in “Laugh It Up @ Your Library” programs for preschool-fifth graders, and “Library Lotto” for students in sixth grade and higher, will win a private evening party at the library on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Scheduled events are:

Mondays, celebrity readers and story times at 10 a.m.

Tuesdays, special guests at 10 a.m.

Wednesdays, join the librarians for story times for babies.

Thursdays, librarians and special guests at 10 a.m.

Fridays, Pyramid Prowlers “prowl” food groups at 10 a.m.

Programs for the first week:

. June 23, 10 a.m. Laughing Place: Musician and storyteller Jennifer Armstrong.

. June 24, 10 a.m. Rock Hounds: Anna Wickett, a new graduate of the University of Maine, collecting rocks and minerals.

. June 25, 9:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. Mother Goose Story Times for babies at 9:15 a.m. Story Time at 10 a.m. for children 2-5.

. June 26, 10 a.m. Bad Hair Day with JC Penney Salon: Have “bad” hair made gorgeous or gorgeous hair made “bad with stylists from J C Penney Salon.

. June 27, 10 a.m. A special guest on grains as part of the food pyramid.
