Eames Leadership Award

Merlene Sanborn of Brownville was presented the 2003 G. Clifton Eames Leadership Award May 23 at the Bangor Region Leadership Institute’s Alumni Association dinner. The institute was created to provide a program that nurtures future leaders who will have an impact on the economic, social and cultural environment of the region.

Sanborn’s award celebrates her commitment, dedication and strong leadership capabilities she has demonstrated as a leader. As director of the Penquis Higher Education Center in Dover-Foxcroft, she has championed the development of the Penquis Leadership Institute, which is modeled after the Bangor Region Leadership Institute. Sanborn was nominated by her peers.

The G. Clifton Eames Leadership Award was established by the alumni association to recognize and promote strong community involvement and provide incentives for continued application of leadership skills.

Association officials called Eames a role model for all graduates of the Bangor Region Leadership Institute Program.
