HERMON – Erik Worster of Lee was looking for his first win of the season in the Big Enduro class during Wacky Wednesday racing activity at Speedway 95.

Starting up front always helps.

Worster started on the outside pole and led from wire-to-wire to take the checkered flag in his 1992 Thunderbird. Cherryfield’s Chuck Hall survived a wreck to finish second and Danforth’s Josh Frye was third.

“It feels real good. Chuck had a real strong car but it looks like he got run into. [If not] He definitely would have been up there challenging me. He runs good,” said the Worster, 22.

Worster said his car ran well and the key to winning is “weaving through traffic, trying to be as patient as you can and staying out of trouble.”

Hall said “I got knocked over the bank [early] but I was able to come up through.”

Winterport’s Billie Allen won the Ladies Little Enduro after Hermon’s Vicki Hollobaugh and Alton’s Becky Shorey got tangled up late.

Shorey rallied to finish second in her Ford Probe, her best finish ever. Daria Young of Winterport took third in Richard Seekins’ Mazda “since my 71 car got rolled over last week.”

“I almost got spun out a couple of times but I was able to recover pretty well,” said Allen, who drove a Chevy Cavalier.

Frankfort’s Seekins had picked up a second-place finish with the car earlier in one of the two Little Enduro features.

Bangor’s Jason Witts won that feature by 20 car-lengths and Lamoine’s Bob Merchant finished third.

Ellsworth’s Greg Small won the other Little Enduro feature. Carmel’s John Luce was second and Sullivan’s Richard Burrill was third.

Luce got bumped midway through the race and that cost him a chance to win.

“I saw him take a little spin so I knew I could take it a little easy,” said Small, who drove a 1993 Ford Escort. “My car was awesome tonight. It was fast.”

Luce was pleased with his finish, especially since he had to negotiate his way through a 29-car field after being nudged.

“I’ll take this [second] any night. If I go home with a whole car, I’m satisfied,” said Luce.

Both Little Enduro features had 29 cars.

Defending Truck Class points champ Brett Crosby of Hermon picked up his first win of the season with Clifton’s Jim Carr and Hermon’s Tim Richardson Sr. placing third.

“I almost won a couple of weeks ago. I led the whole race but my tire went flat with a couple of laps left and Jimmy Carr prevailed,” said Crosby, who won four races last season.

The first Double O race of the season, in which the cars alternate their 10 laps on the third-mile track and the fifth-mile inner track, was won by Brewer’s Aaron Bragg with Ellsworth’s Russell Blenkhorn second and Milo’s Lewis Badger Jr. taking third.
