Pastrami disappeared from an Old Town home in what appeared to be an unprofitable burglary Thursday morning.

Old Town police Officer Bob Pelletier said a Brunswick Street woman told him she found closet items scattered on her bedroom floor and a bag of dog biscuits left on her kitchen counter when she came home at about 11:30 a.m.

The woman told Pelletier she had left the house at 10 a.m. and hadn’t locked the door.

A package of pastrami that had been full in the refrigerator was lying empty on the counter, the woman said.

Pelletier said the dog biscuits, ordinarily kept in the cupboard, may have been used to pacify the dog tied up outside. Pelletier said some kitchen drawers appeared to have been opened, but nothing was taken aside from the pastrami.

Pelletier noted there have been about four other burglaries in the neighborhood in the past month involving unsecured homes and thefts of change.

A birdbath was stolen from a Bangor address Tuesday night.

Bangor police Officer Dennis Lally said a Randolph Drive woman told him her white concrete birdbath, valued at $50, was missing from her lawn. The birdbath, which she said was quite heavy, was last seen at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lally said a check of nearby woods came up empty. He requested further checks of the area.
