Penquis rolls to second win

SEARSPORT – Penquis racked up 15 hits and played errorless defense to defeat Waldo County 15-5 in American Legion baseball league action Thursday.

Adam Russell and Justin Weymouth rapped a double and two singles each for the winners, while Joey Kane doubled and singled. Shane Strout added a two-run home run to back Eric Day, who earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of solid relief.

Nick Arthers paced Waldo with two singles. Ken Spaulding belted a two-run homer and Paul Herman hit a solo shot.

At Ellsworth, Scott Flannery slammed two homers, a two-run shot and a three-run job in addition to an RBI double as the Lumber rolled.

Jeremy Ham added three singles and Nate Cousineau laced two singles for the winners.

Chris Sargent hit an RBI double for the Acadians.

Calais 14, Houlton 4

At Calais, Ben Maloney tossed six solid innings of four-hit ball as the Suns rolled past Houlton.

James Macdonald and Steve Colbeth each slammed a solo homer, with Macdonald adding a double and a single and Colbeth hit a double for Calais. Darren Constant laced two singles, Joe Footer doubled and singled, and Chris Dyer had a double and a triple.

Justin Henderson led Houlton with a double and a single.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Billy Chapman scattered just five hits for two runs in six innings with six strikeouts as the Comrades won a rain-shortened affair.

Andy Treadwell laced an RBI single for the winners and Nick LaRochelle had two singles and an RBI.

Andy Pease smacked an RBI double to lead the Twins and Brad Goody singled twice and plated a run.

Brewer 10, Hampden 3

At Brewer, Jason Harvey hit a grand slam as the Falcons rolled.

The game was called after six innings due to rain.

Kyle Dalton hit a two-run single for Brewer. Nye Gifford singled twice and knocked in a run, Zach Bouzan-Kaloustian added two singles, and Jake Knight singled.

Ian Lee led the Riverdogs with a two-run single and Blaine Meehan hit two singles.
