STANFORD, Calif. – Farmington native Kevin Eastler, a member of the U.S. Air Force, won the 20-kilometer racewalk at the U.S.A. Track and Field Outdoor Championships Friday. Eastler’s time of 1 hour, 23 minutes, 52.20 seconds was nearly a minute better than runner-up Tim Seaman of the New York Athletic Club, who finished in 1:24:47.37.
Eastler became the only American to qualify for the racewalk event at the track and field world championships in Paris by barely beating the qualifying standard of 1:24:00.
“Both are very important,” Eastler said of his first U.S. title and qualifying for the world championships in August. “It’s great to do it at the same time.”
