ELLSWORTH – Arshwin Asjes and Seth Mayo pitched backto-back shutouts Saturday as the Trenton Acadians swept a Zone 1 American Legion baseball doubleheader from Hampden.

Trenton won the opener 1-0 and took the second game 5-0.

In the first game, Mayo struck out 10 and walked one. Asjes doubled and singled with a RBI.

Ian Lee had two singles for the Riverdogs.

In the second game, Asjes pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12 and walking three.

Nick Henry had three singles for Trenton while Garrett Hardison and Asjes each singled twice. Ben Freedman had a two-run single and Adam Cousins hit a RBI single.

Billy Bart and Billy Shannon each singled for the Riverdogs.

Brewer takes two from Penquis

At Dover-Foxcroft, Brewer swept Penquis Saturday, winning the first game 11-4 and taking the second 15-1.

In the first game, Pat Moran hit a home run and a double with three RBIs to back Andrew Patterson, who pitched a four-hitter.

Jake Knight rapped a home run and two singles, Jason Harvey had a home run and two RBIs, and Kyle Dalton doubled and singled with an RBI.

James Gray led Penquis with a two-run homer.

In the second game, Kevin McAvoy had three singles and two RBIs while Pat Moran stroke two singles and a double. Nye Gifford singled twice with an RBI. Dalton and Chad Gomm combined on a three-hitter.

Joey Kane, Eric Day and Adam Russell singled for Penquis.

Bangor 3-5, Calais 2-6

At Calais Saturday, Josh Francis’ one-out double in the seventh inning scored James Macdonald from first to give Calais a split of its twinbill.

Bangor had tied the game with four runs in the top of the seventh thanks to Nick Larochelle’s RBI double and run-scoring singles by Josh Young and Brian Worster.

Scott Macdonald had three singles for the winners. Nate Hall and Larochelle doubled for Bangor.

In the opener, Mike Larochelle’s two-run single broke a scoreless tie in the seventh and Tyler Jellison squeezed home P.J. Dowe with what proved to be the winning run.

Young outdueled Scott Macdonald, scattering four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Macdonald hurled a five-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks.

Dowe doubled and singled for Bangor while Steve Colbeth had two singles for Calais. Derek Maloney had an RBI double.

At Millinocket, Matt Leino’s three-run triple highlighted a six-run second inning and Scott Flannery belted a three-run homer in the third as Lincoln built a 13-2 lead and withstood a six-run seventh inning rally by Orono to complete the sweep.

In the nightcap, Matt Malone had two doubles and an RBI for Lincoln, Tyler Gardner singled twice and Jeremy Ham came on to end Orono’s rally by striking out two.

Bo Thomas had two doubles and two RBIs for Orono, Ryan Levesque had two singles and three RBIs, and Ryan Brown singled twice and had an RBI.

In the opener, Cody Thompson fired a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking two, and Tom Lasko snapped a 1-1 tie by hitting a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Matt Wark had three singles for Lincoln while Dustin Thomas and George Keefe doubled for Orono.

Central Maine sweeps Schoodic

At Husson College in Bangor, Seth Cronkite and Randy Renaud combined to allow only one earned run and one hit while striking out 12 to lead Central Maine Cleaning to a sweep of Schoodic on Saturday.

In the first game, Ben Huber singled twice for Central Maine while Adam Meader and Gary Smith added RBI singles.

Eric Conway doubled and singled with two RBIs for Schoodic.

In the second game, Renaud tripled, doubled and singled with three RBIs for Central Maine Cleaners and Gene Savoy hit a RBI single.

Mike Copperthwaite singled for Schoodic.

At Husson College in Bangor on Saturday, Pasco Grove hit a pair of singles to help Montville take the first game from Quirk, which won the nightcap.

In the first game, Ben Relyea doubled for Montville.

Bill Kane hit three singles for Quirk. Derick Prescott doubled and Shawn Henderson had a two-run single.

In the second game, Jason Folsom had two singles for Quirk.

Devin Potvin singled twice for Montville.

Tucker Dulong led the Old Town effort with a double.
