BELGRADE – A Rome man hoping to evade police pulled into a state trooper’s driveway Sunday morning after a high-speed chase ended with a flat tire.

Deganawidah Goeman, 25, ended up in Trooper Sean Kinney’s driveway after allegedly hitting speeds of 112 mph.

Kinney, who was at home, helped Trooper Diane Vance capture Goeman in a field near the home. Goeman faces seven charges, including two counts of drug possession.

Vance said she was on patrol on Route 27 in Sidney about 8:20 a.m. when she clocked Goeman doing 112 mph in a 55-mph zone.

He headed north through Belgrade when one of his front tires went flat, she said.

He pulled off the road into what happened to be Kinney’s driveway. Goeman ran through a field for about a half-mile, with Vance chasing him, when Kinney drove up on his four-wheeler. Vance jumped on the back of Kinney’s ATV and they caught up with Goeman.

“The trooper on the four-wheeler saved the day,” she said.

Goeman, who was driving a rental car from Vermont, is charged with driving to endanger, eluding an officer, criminal speeding, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failing to sign a uniform traffic ticket.

Goeman was held overnight Sunday in the Kennebec County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
