HOULTON – Nick Arthers pitched a complete-game six-hitter and went 2-for-4 with two walks and three runs scored as Waldo County topped Houlton 12-7 to salvage a split of their American Legion baseball doubleheader Saturday.
Houlton (1-3) won the opener 6-2, as winning pitcher Matt Day allowed two hits while striking out nine in his five innings of work. Chad Lavway and Derek Dow each had two hits for Houlton in the first game, while Chris Parsons had two hits. Arthers and Willy Crichton doubled for Waldo County.
Waldo County (2-2) never trailed in the nightcap, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings. Chris Cole tripled, doubled and singled and had three RBI for Houlton, while Nick Cole hit a two-run double.
