School names interim headmaster Foxcroft Academy chooses former John Bapst chief Allen C. Adriance

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Allen C. Adriance, a Massachusetts native, has been appointed interim headmaster at Foxcroft Academy for a two-year term, starting Aug. 1.

Adriance has an extensive background in independent school administration, having held similar positions in 10 other institutions, including his most recent position as interim headmaster at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Adriance to Foxcroft Academy,” said Vandy Hewett, FA trustee president. “His experience and leadership will provide important guidance to us over the next two years.

“The board, faculty and staff are looking forward to working with him for the betterment of the academy,” she said.

Throughout much of his career, Adriance has devoted himself specifically to interim positions both as an administrator and consultant.

He has served as interim head at schools from Colorado to Florida. He came to Maine as the interim headmaster for John Bapst in July 2001 and during his tenure worked to increase enrollment to its highest level in the school’s history, increased the number of honors and AP courses, led the board in strategic planning and policy review, enhanced accountability within the school and provided transitional leadership from its founding head to a new permanent headmaster.

Adriance was raised on the campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and attended three independent schools.
