UNITY – The 133-year-old Belfast & Moosehead Railroad, rescued by Unity philanthropist Bert G. Clifford in the 1990s, is about to be sold.

An agreement was signed last week for the sale of assets of the 33-mile tourist railroad and station to Railstar Corp. of Cape Vincent, N.Y., according to Larry Sterrs, chairman of the board for the Unity Foundation.

A July 21 closing date has been scheduled, contingent upon a contract with the Department of Transportation for maintenance of the track bed, Sterrs said.

Railstar’s vice president and general manager, Ronald J. Trottier, said trains will continue to operate between Unity, Burnham Junction and Belfast, including charter and dinner train service.
