North Shore’s Baez blanks Lumberjacks

LYNN, Mass. – A four-hit shutout pitched by Miguel Baez allowed the North Shore Spirit to “sweep” a rare, one-game series against Bangor Monday night.

The Spirit walked off the Fraser Field surface with a 2-0 victory over the Lumberjacks, who are still struggling with a lack of offensive punch despite showing signs of shaking their plate lethargy this past weekend.

Baez (4-1) may have been the primary reason why Bangor bats were silent again as he struck out seven batters while walking two.

North Shore, now 19-16, got all the offense it would need from Carlos Sepulveda, who hit a two-out RBI single in the first inning and an RBI double in the sixth. Mike Tejada, who scored on Sepulveda’s double after reaching on an error, also went 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

John Vigue (3-2) took the tough-luck loss for Bangor despite pitching seven strong innings in which he struck out seven batters and allowed five hits and one earned run.

Donnie Ross led Bangor’s offense with two singles.

Bangor dropped to 13-20 with 13 games left in the first half of the Northeast League’s season.

Bangor remains on the road for a two-game series at Brockton, Mass., before returning home for a three-day, six-game series against Allentown Friday through Sunday.
