Lumberjacks settle for twinbill split with Rox

BROCKTON, Mass. – The Bangor Lumberjacks got two strong outings from their starting pitchers Tuesday, but settled for a split of a Tuesday night doubleheader against the Brockton Rox.

Bangor won the second game 4-0 after losing the opener 6-1 in Northeast League action.

In the nightcap, lefthander Tim Rall improved to 3-0 as he pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts.

Donnie Ross provided the only offense Rall would need as he belted his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot. Outfielder Barry Paulk went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

In the first game, Bangor starter Jerry Long went the distance and pitched six good innings Tuesday night, but five unearned earns on three Bangor errors spelled a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Brockton Rox in the first game of a Northeast League doubleheader.

First baseman Craig Lewis led Brockton with one stolen base, two singles, and three RBIs. Saul Bustos stole two bases and scored two runs. Righthander Mike Marchesano (2-4) notched the win after pitching six innings of three-hit ball while getting seven strikeouts and issuing no walks.

Long had five strikeouts and four walks, but committed one of the errors. Newcomer Bryan Britt led Bangor with a solo home run in the second and a single.

Senators, Sea Dogs split

A two-run homer by Justin Sherrod and a solo shot by Kevin Youkilis in the second game led Portland over Harrisburg 5-3.
