HOULTON – Houlton police have charged two juveniles with burglary after they were caught in a house while the owners were away.

A 17-year-old Houlton boy and a 16-year-old Hammond boy were arrested shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, June 26, inside a High Street home, according to Lt. Daniel Pelletier of the Houlton Police Department.

Police received a call from a neighbor who reported seeing flashlights in the house. Officers Matthew Quint and Carolyn Crandall of the Houlton Police Department responded, as did a U.S. Border Patrol agent with a search dog.

Pelletier noted that while the two youths did not immediately reveal themselves to the officers when police entered the house, the presence of the dog provided the motivation for them to do so.

The boys were released into the custody of their parents.
