PORTLAND – The Boston Red Sox have assigned pitcher Casey Fossum to the Portland Sea Dogs on a Major League rehab assignment this weekend.

Fossum has been sidelined since June 8, suffering from left shoulder tendinitis. He is scheduled to make his first start on Saturday against the New Haven Ravens and will throw for one inning. His second start is Tuesday against the New Britain Rock Cats and he’ll throw for two innings.

Fossum, a 25 year-old lefty, has a 4-4 record with a 5.76 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 24 walks.
