OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Police have identified the 14-year-old Lyman girl killed Saturday when the car she was riding in crashed on Ross Road.

April Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene after a vehicle driven by her 17-year-old cousin missed a curve and struck a tree, according to police.

Kelly Rowe, the car’s driver, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was listed in fair condition Monday.

The cousins had visited the grave of Rowe’s brother Todd, who committed suicide two years ago, according to Stevens’ mother, Susan. She said April and Kelly had walked on the beach before beginning the drive home.

Police said alcohol was not a factor, but speed might have contributed to the accident.
