Tea for you

If you’d like to spend an afternoon sipping tea and nibbling goodies in an elegant garden, visit the Woodlawn Museum (aka the Black House) in Ellsworth. The teas are a longstanding summer tradition at the mansion, and the proceeds will be used to purchase cataloging software for the museum, which will help make its collection of art, artifacts and historical items more accessible to the public. The teas cost $15 per person and will take place at 3 p.m. today, July 23, Aug. 6 and Aug. 20. For information or reservations, which are recommended, call 667-8671.

Salad Days

Fill up your plates (and then take them home) at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts’ annual Salad Days fund-raiser. For a $20 donation, visitors to the Newcastle center will receive a handmade earthenware salad plate created by a resident artist, which they can then fill at a buffet of fresh fruit and vegetable salads. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12. For information or directions, visit www.watershedcenterceramicarts.org or call 882-6075.

Cold comfort food

Do you scream for ice cream? Breyer’s recipe for Caramel Banana Sundae Pie will make you scream even louder. To make it, take 1 8-inch prepared graham cracker crust. Spoon in 3 cups softened vanilla ice cream and spread evenly. Drizzle with 1/3 cup warmed caramel ice cream topping. Spoon 3 more cups softened vanilla ice cream into the crust and spread evenly. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and freeze until solid, at least 5 hours. Remove pie from the freezer 10 minutes before serving. Peel and slice 2 firm, ripe bananas and place them on top of the pie. Drizzle pie with 1/4 cup each warmed caramel ice cream topping and fudge ice cream topping. Slice and serve.
