An Orrington woman Wednesday drove off the road for unknown reasons in Hampden.

Hampden police Officer Ruth Duquette said Doris Doll, 49, apparently was driving her 1999 Ford Taurus north on Route 1A at about 7 p.m. when it crossed the left lane and left the road. The car hit a telephone pole and the support wire of another pole, then rolled halfway across the lawn of the Park Rest Motel where it stopped.

Duquette said that while four or five people called 911, nobody stopped to help Doll, who was stuck in her car and eventually had to be freed by Hampden Fire and Rescue, using the Jaws of Life.

Duquette said Doll had no visible injuries but was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Bangor police arrested a man early Wednesday morning on assault charges.

At about 3:45 a.m., Officers Russell Twaddell, Chad Foley and Randall Parson went to a Garland Street apartment for a report of an assault in progress.

When the officers entered the residence, a woman charged toward them and demanded they take her ex-fiancee, Mark Goetz, 43, of Bangor, to jail for hitting her, Twaddell said.

The woman said they had argued that night, and that Goetz punched her near the ear and on the back of the head. She said that while she was on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, Goetz pulled the phone cord from the wall.

Twaddell said he arrested Goetz for assault and obstruction of the report of a crime.

While they were leaving, Twaddell noticed burn marks on Goetz’s legs. Goetz said the woman deliberately had put a hot pan on his lap the week before. Officer Foley said that Goetz denied hitting the woman while he appeared to be fighting back tears.

Twaddell said he could find no discernable marks on the woman’s head, but took her to Eastern Maine Medical Center at her request.

A Bangor man allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house and assaulted her Tuesday night.

At about 11 p.m., Bangor police Officers Randall Parsons and Chad Foley went to a Moosehead Boulevard home for a report of a domestic assault in progress. They found Officer Chris Desmond already there. He told them the victim was on the floor when he arrived.

Parsons said the woman told him she had been on the phone when her ex-boyfriend James Barclay, 35, appeared, tapping on her back window. When she told him to go away, Barclay went around to the front door and kicked it in, the woman said.

The woman told Parsons that when she wouldn’t tell Barclay who she was talking to, he smashed the phone on the floor. She told him to leave again, whereupon he allegedly grabbed her, pushed her to the floor, hit her in the ribs and cheek and kicked her, then left.

Officers went to Barclay’s home but could not find him. Parsons said he filed an application for an arrest warrant for Parsons, with charges of burglary and assault.
