NORWICH, Conn. – Dustin Brisson hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to an 8-5 win over the Norwich Navigators in the Eastern League Friday.
Portland (48-40) loaded the bases on a single by Tony Schrager, a walk to Sean McGowan and an error.
Jeremy Owens struck out on three pitches for the first out, but Brisson, who entered the game in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter, drilled the first pitch he saw from losing pitcher R.D. Spiehs (2-4).
Norwich (39-51) loaded the bases against winning pitcher Mike Nicolas (4-2) in the bottom of the eighth inning on one-out walks to Marco Pernalete and Chris Curry and a two-out walk to Adam Shabala. But Doug Clark struck out swinging to end the threat.
Schrager had two hits in the win.
Curry had three hits and two RBIs, and Alejandro Freire and Mike Cervenak had two hits apiece for Norwich.
